Broadcasting player activity

Hi,

I've been in the RSPS scene since 2011 and will write down suggestions as I play. You can do with them as you like - I’ll simply post them.

Here are some suggestions I have that I think will help make the server feel more alive and retain new players. I do not speak out of personal opinion, but rather from experience.

  1. When the server has a low player count, it’s good to broadcast skill progression. Something that helped us grow back in the day was broadcasting level progress starting from level 90 and up. It creates the illusion that a lot of things are happening on the server. This could stop once 60+ players are online. Why that many? Because it also encourages community engagement - players congratulate each other on achievements, which helps them bond with the server.
  2. The same goes for announcing when players log in, especially when the player count is below a certain number (for example, 30).
  3. Place thieving stalls downstairs around the home area. When a new player logs in, you want them to immediately be able to do something. There’s a theory behind placing thieving stalls visibly at home: it’s one of the easiest activities to start with and helps new players get going quickly. This improves the chances that they will stick around and give the game a try. Besides that, it will also make the home area look and feel more active.

Big agree, the server feels completely empty even with 10 people on.

I'd love to see broadcasts (at the current player levels) on top of what we already have, for:
- Barrow's pieces
- First-time kills (e.g., Zoc has just defeated Zul'rah for the first time!)
- KC milestones (e.g., 100, 200, 300, 400 kc for any boss)
- EXP milestones (50m, 100m, 150m)
- Grandmaster combat tasks
- I'm sure there's loads more someone could think of, it's just nice to know there are other people on doing things.

Another thing that unfortunately can't really be taken back now is the donator zone. I feel it would have been much better at the current server size to have had a donator building or two at home which you can only enter for the various tiered benefits after donating. As it stands, this just takes more visible players away, and, there's no visual display/constant reminder for non-donators as to what they're 'missing out' on right in front of their face at home.

Hey @zoc,

I totally agree, I really the idea of having more broadcasts for these. I will look into adding these.

I also agree with the donator zone's. I think you are spot on. Maybe we can add something to the Home for donator's only. Even as simple as a quick teleportation object to the donator zone etc. @Zynix Could you think about this for a second and maybe come up with a good idea to integrate some donator stuff at home? As this point is really to give more of a feel like what regular players could be missing out on.

Thanks!

I was just looking around home, and a potential spot for some donator bits could be over where the cow and chicken pens are, since they don't have any use other than aesthetics currently.
